Courses & Camps

Regardless of age, ability or skill level, there are a range of courses to suit all goalkeepers. This will ensure that all relevant technical detail has been received.  You will be placed with goalkeepers of similar age / ability when undertaking coaching.

“Since the first course, I cannot keep Tom away from the sessions. His game has improved tremendously along with his skills and fitness.  He has had opportunities with Keeps that he would not have had elsewhere.  I would certainly recommend Les and Keeps to any up and coming Goalkeepers.”

1Each course has been designed to improve ability, technique and competence in goalkeeping. Each participant will be issued with a personal logbook so that progress can be logged and monitored over a period of time.  This will ensure that all goalkeepers become competent in each relevant aspect rather than doing courses just for the sake of it. Each aspect can be tailored to meet the needs of the players where progress will be made accordingly. In using our own unique “Ladder of Development” programme, written and built by ourselves, we offer the most comprehensive and thorough programme in the UK today.  The Keeps Ladder for Development targets goalkeepers of all ages from 7 years upwards, and it offers the most structured and up to date goalkeeper coaching methods on the market. At Keeps Goalkeeping Academy we not only deal with the technical aspects of goalkeeping, we also cover subject matter such as food and nutrition, psychological aspects, (strength of mind and setting goals), SAQ and much more. We also make a point of teaching the physiological side as we feel it is beneficial to have a basic knowledge of the body and how it works.

We have used the development ladder to show the subject matter progressively in each subject. There are obviously a number of drills and exercises that we use to achieve the desired results. In all drills and exercises it is important to stress the technical points. We do this in a positive manner, using a search and discovery type of coaching. This stops the goalkeeper becoming negative, as self-confidence is a major factor in what we are trying to achieve. By using up-to-the-minute coaching techniques and all the latest equipment this provides variations in training with proven results

“Through the dedication, professionalism and quality coaching you provide, I have now progressed to county standard and have recently been signed at Tottenham’s Academy and England under 16's.”
Jamie Butler

Some of the techniques you can expect to learn:

  • Ball familiarity
  • Footwork
  • Handling techniques
  • Shot stopping
  • Moving into line & down the line
  • Angled shot stopping
  • Dealing with crosses
  • Dealing with the back pass
  • 1 v 1 with the striker
  • Ball distribution
  • Recovery saves
  • Deflections
  • Counter attacking

At the end of each session every goalkeeper will be able to assess, grade and record their personal performance. The level of expected competence in each area of goalkeeping will be directly linked to the age and ability of each individual.

It would therefore be expected that by a certain age each goalkeeper should be able to demonstrate competence in most aspects of goalkeeping. The level of achievement will be very much dependant on the goalkeepers own aspirations, as you will see from the courses listed there is something challenging for everyone.

Just a note to let you know that my son, who attended your residential course last August has now been given a years contract at Crystal Palace FC.  I am sure that the time with you at the camp last year contributed immensely and I am adamant that without your coaching this would not have been possible.
